Re: What if we ran as Republican or Democrat?

I don't think that we should use the current parties.  I believe that if we tried to use them, they would pressure the candidates we put for into representing the party over the votes, and then we would end up with what we have now.

I know that it won't be easy unless we use one of the major parties, but we need to try.  Currently, the major parties will do or say anything to get elected.  I can't count the number of attack ads that I have seen in the past week, and are not even related to the democratic primary.  If you want examples of this, just look at the statements of Obama and Clinton.  In my opinion, both of those are horrible nominations.  I recently saw a Clinton interview where I agreed with a lot of things she was saying, however, her integrity is so poor at this point that I I don't believe that she will do anything that she said she would.

If we truely want change in the system, we need to put forth candidates which can be trusted.  I would like to be able to believe that the person I am voting for is going to be honest.  If a politician is caught breaking the law, I would like to think "I can't believe he did that" rather than "Oh look, another one got caught".

I realize this will be difficult.  There are a lot of people out there who are no longer willing to vote because of the politicians.  My mother is one of those people.  She stopped caring after Bill Clinton was elected a second time.  This will definatly be an uphill battle for us, so I think it will be many years before we can cause real change in the way politics are done.

Re: What if we ran as Republican or Democrat?
I just joined and I was of the mind that you WERE going to field candidates in one of the 2 main parties, since that is the structure we can work with right away, but that the candidates we would propose and work for ARE NOT career politicians and ARE fully cognizant of the need to restore our Constitution, our Bill of Rights, and the Rule of Law. We need to destroy the 2-party system once these candidates are in place. Such candidates must pledge to work to remove all electronic voting machines from our elections and to make election processes open and public and accountable to the public and to run clean money campaigns so as to not be accountable to anyone but their voters. They should also work for a better voting process that will give other parties equal access- e.g. Instant Runoff Voting. To me, those would be the basics to restore real elections and to banish faith-based elections. Secondly, these candidates must of course be passionate about their oaths to defend and protect the Constitution, because we would not be in this pickle if the current batch in the 110th Congress were honoring their oath of office. Thirdly, these candidates must be passionate about protecting the Rule of Law, and removing the right of politicians to grant pardons. The pardons granted after Watergate and the Iran-contra crimes is what allowed these same criminals to come back and take over the country. And they probably plan on doing it again in 2009. I personally have 3 wonderful candidates I was going to propose as citizen candidates to run against rubber-stamp incumbents of both parties. They are all currently running as Democrats, but could probably very easily fit into the Green platforms, if that were viable. We need to get intelligent, decent, honest, honorable candidates like these into Congress ASAP and pull out as many rubber-stamp corporate-backed incumbents OUT as we can.

Re: What if we ran as Republican or Democrat?

I tend to agree that using a party could be a "means to an end", but do you really want a candidate's loyalty split between a political party and the interests of their constituents? (Kind of sounds like what we are already doing) Remember that party loyalty often comes before loyalty to the common voter. Also, I would tend to think that either party would be threatened by a GOOOH nominee. The special interests may not mesh with a candidate actually doing his/her job in office. This could upset many party supporters which could threatened financial contributions to the party. Any thoughts?

What if we ran as Republican or Democrat?
Since 2004 I have been a county chairman for the Constitution Party. As a longtime fan of Ron Paul, I have spent the last year laboring hard for his Republican presidential campaign. I also love the GOOOH idea of replacing well-connected, well-funded career politicians with common lay persons (like you and me.) HOWEVER.... I also have seen firsthand the obstacles that face third parties. It's not pretty! I have little faith that GOOOH will be able to accomplish what the Libertarian, Constitution, Green, Creator's Rights, and other parties have not - to elect candidates to high office. Ballot access, media coverage, voter bias/ignorance....GOOOH would likely spend $300,000 just trying to get on the ballot IN TEXAS ALONE. How much money/time do we want to throw at this approach? I suggest selecting and recruiting candidates, and pushing/supporting them into office using the existing two party system. We could use the GOOOH questionnaire and selection criteria, and allow our candidates to run for office using the machinery of their choice. After all, the Republican Party (for example) is only a means to an end. Why not use the two parties to get grassroots candidates into office? It's FREE, and if we can win the primary, we would start off ab initio in November with a good 40%-60% of the electorate solidly supporting us. Discuss.
