Re: We need to get the $$$ Out of politics

The answer is to start electing "citizen" representatives again. Get back to our roots by removing "career" politicians! I'll never understand how the American voter can go into a polling place, thouroughly disgusted with his Congressman, and still, almost in a zombie-like mode, leave the polling place having voted for the same old scoundrel once again! We have got to stop this madness! We must learn to keep trying new candidates until we can get real representation for American values. We have politicians today that have us reading the Miranda rights to terrorists captured in Afghanistan! We've got to stop the madness! We can keep on blaming bad representation if we want to, but the power is in the ballot! We must start exercising that power before we don't have it anymore.

Re: We need to get the $$$ Out of politics

<<Raising $30 million for a campaign seems to show that you owe somebody something for the money you were given.>>

How true.

There has been much success by independents and grassroots campaigns using YouTube and other sites to reach a large macro audience at a micro cost. In the upcoming elections, I see these methods being used more frequently to reach certain segments of voters. The transition to internet driven campaigns will be a generational trend.

Posting video is easy, it only takes a 13-year old and a digital camera : ) Getting higher quality video, however, is not too much more difficult with today’s high resolution video cameras and a tripod. It is the audio which generally comes out low quality, but external microphones can solve this problem. As for editing, I am not a professional, but most OTC software from Best Buy can handle the job.

Honestly, I hope to see more candidates add “view-on-demand” content with stances to common issues. However, most candidates avoid the straight answer seeking to please the greatest number possible. This hurdle is the greatest hurdle to any communication medium and political campaigning will have to be changed entirely. With success, I would love to see this as a direct consequence of pressure by individuals and groups such as GOOOH. Time reveals all…

I think this is one of those inevitable generational changes.  When you see things like TIVO and DVR catch hold television commercials will loose much of their affect and be replaced by the Internet.  In a few years internet advertising will be the norm...

Get candidates that are familiar and unafraid of the Internet.

Re: We need to get the $$$ Out of politics

I doubt that non-GOOOH candidates would use the internet for most of the campaigning.  TV is a powerful medium for reaching people.  That being said, we could take steps to help those we nominate so that they can do more with the internet, and less with TV.

The most obvious thing that we would need is video.  Not everyone has what is needed to put together a video and post it on the internet.  What we could do is within each district, or state if people are close enough, people could give time, or loan items needed.  So, lets say Bob has a fast internet, Hank has a camera, and Jill was nominated.  Hank could make a video of Jill and give it to Bob to post it on the internet.  Bob could also maintain a website for Jill's campaign.

At this point, no new items were purchased, and only time has been given to the campaign.  If everyone contributes a little, even if it is only time, then less money needs to be spent and the less advertising that will need to be done on other mediums.

If you want to have politics more away from money, then the best thing we can do is not say how much cash we have.  I don't believe it is important how much money someone has raised, since that doesn't show anything about their political views.  Raising $30 million for a campaign seems to show that you owe somebody something for the money you were given.

We need to get the $$$ Out of politics

How can we get Candidates to do a Majority of their Campaigning using the Internet?

And I DON'T MEAN - ONLY asking for $$$.
