Re: New questions requested

I would like more questions on illegal aliens, crime and welfare.

Would you vote for or against all forms of monetary welfare, excluding non-seasonal unemployment. you get a sack of food and a roof and minimal "clinic" health care.

Would you vote for making welfare recipients participating in agricultural and community service jobs a requirement punnishable by prison.

Would you vote for or against violent criminals and welfare recipients being subject to reversible but assured, in some exceptional cases permanent, contraception until such a time they contribute to society or are proven innocent.

Would you vote for or against legal immagrants having to pay all taxes immediately, they currently get a 6 or 7 year ride.

Would you vote to audit then abolish the Federal Reserve.

Would you vote to audit and prosecute any former elected or appointed official who's net worth increased over his term in office or public service.

Would you vote for limiting all foriegn aid to food, non-military machinery, and training.

Would you vote for a missions to the Moon and Mars.

GREAT questionaire, would do 200 questions if needed for later rounds of the selection procees

Re: New questions requested

We agree. It is likely that we will have a forum of sorts for the final ten candidates in each district. We're not sure if we'll use a tool like MySpace or Facebook, or just add functionality to our site, but we agree that our final candidates should be able to do things like 1) post a resume, 2) file a letter to discuss what is most important to them, and 3) address specific and current issues. As an example, you'll note we do not ask the question "Would you vote to remove all troops from Iraq within x days after taking office." Many people will want to know each candidate's answer to that question, and they can of course ask during the Selection Session, but it may also be worthwhile to have each candidate document and commit to that position. There will always be new questions to ask, and we know we need a way to keep the list current.

Re: New questions requested

I like both suggestions.  To limit a bill to cover one thing will help increase the accountability on it and reduce the pork.  The one about committing to read -- I propose: requiring a law to be read aloud by the speaker of the House?  That will put a new meaning to "Speaker".

What about having a free-form section where we list specific items we will commit to, over and above the questionaiire.  I'm all for accountability, but would like to be judged (commitment-wise) on items that aren't covered by the questionaiire.  So we keep our commitments to whatever we ye/no'd in the questionaiire, and keep our commitment to what we list in the free-form section?

Re: New questions requested

Thanks, we have several of these on the list to consider, most specifically, the seven day rule and the requirement to read each bill.

New questions requested
Sorry if there's another place to do this, but I couldn't find one. I'd like to nominate some new questions for the questionnaire. Would you vote to require that any Act of Congress address only one issue? Would you vote to require each Congressman to attest that he has read a bill before he votes on it? In the absence of such a law, would you agree before taking office that you will do so? Would you voluntarily include an attribution of Constitutional authority covering any bill that you present to Congress? Would you vote for a requirement that a bill be available to the public on the Internet for some reasonable length of time (e.g., seven days) before it can be voted on?
