Re: Writing own platform vs. questionaire lock in

If you aren't willing to commit, then GOOOH is probably not for you. We're tired of politicians who say they will vote for term limits, and then don't, or who say they will reduce taxes, then raise them. The questions simply draw a line in the sand. Declare on which side you stand. Politicians refuse to do so and look at the results.

GOOOH offers a new way, but we understand it is not for everyone. You are certainly free to continue supporting whatever approach we like, but we also hope you will discuss the system with others and try to understand the other perspective.

Good luck!

There are now right or wrong answers but plenty of wrong questions.

Each candidate should certainly feel free to elaborate on their "platform," perhaps in a MySpace page, but answers to the questions are a foundational component of GOOOH. When you sit down with your peers in pools of ten to determine who you prefer, absolute yes or no answers are critically important. Politicians have wavered on issues for far too long (consider items such as term limits and taxes). We are seeking accountability, not continued waffling.

Those that are not willing to document their position and bind their answers will not be able to participate in this process, but note that you will have time to explain why you voted yes or no on the issues in the Selection Sessions. Remember, there are no right or wrong answers, only what your peers will accept.

Writing own platform vs. questionaire lock in

Hopefully we can have a discussion on this topic.  I am not comfortable being restricted to words that others write for they way I would vote if elected.  I would prefer if each prospective candidate wrote their own platform in which they stand.  I could see the potential of being held accountable for an answer I forgot even existed.  A year after being elected, Gooh could come back and say they were not going to support my re-election bid because I voted different than my answer on question 82, or 5, or any of them.

But, if I wrote my own platform in my own words, I would be more apt to follow my own words.  It would make accountability much easier.  Also, it would create a tool to be elected.  We could show the public, this is what I stand for, this is the way I will vote, and post it on a website for the whole world to see.  Maybe even Goooh could buy a server that could hold all of the final candidates platforms with some of the money they are receiving from the $100 donations.  There may be an arguement that it will be harder for accountability but if the public had access to it and you voted against your own platform, someone will point it out.

One thing I like about this party is that the top does not dictate down to the representatives what they support.  It is ok to disagree with Goooh.  That is a strong area for support that neither the dems or reps have.  We can also use it as a fighting tool to win the elections.

I plan on writing one anyways and using it as a tool to get elected.

Your thoughts?
