Re: Obsession with the ACLU?
|
I agree with putting more pressure on organizations like the ACLU. The few good things they have done do not make up for their continuing efforts to erode everything this country was based on. They are very good at twisting legal technicalities to ensure people can corrupt the moral and ethical fabric of this country and move us closer to the godless, socialist Utopia they envision. I also think the media should be highlighted for their continuing efforts to glorify our enemies, glorify socialism and blame America for all the world's ills. What ever happened to people being proud to be an American? What happened to people standing up and stating the simple obvious truths? Organizations like the ACLU and others is what happened. If we want to keep this great Republic and reverse our current trend toward a failed socialist nation, we have to stand up to these organizations and say NO, that is not what we stand for! (Or I am completely wrong and most Americans want a godless, socialist nation where big government runs their lives and gives out the substandard services equally to all. But I seriously doubt it.) |

Re: Obsession with the ACLU?

I will start off by saying that I have a major problem with the ACLU. I do not believe that they currently exist to protect the civil liberties of individuals. The fact is that they are continually undermining the very fabric of the nation. They fight against every traditional value that made this country great. Any organization that will go to bat for NAMBLA is an organization that has a radical agenda and is trying to force it on everyone else. They are far left group of lawyers intent turning this country into socialist, godless nation. The ACLU continually fights any expression of religion in school, yet they support certain California public schools forcing kids to dress and pretend they are Muslim for two weeks. I am all for an organization that will truly protect the liberties of individuals, but that is simply not their purpose or goal. |

I find it amazing that the Patriot Act was produced so quickly. Really...It had been in place PREVIOUS to 9/11. |

I will withhold my $100 contribution and further spreading of the word to your efforts until a satisfactory resolution is made with regard to the ACLU question.

I was a member. I agree with the concept. I am somewhat disappointed by the execution, besides I really just wanted the card for my wallet. I wouldn't mind seeing more organizations dedicated to improving the law. |

I was a member of the ACLU at one time but I removed myself. I do agree with them on some issues and there are many I disagree with, to many of them to stay a member in good standing because I would have been lieing to them and myself |

Re: Obsession with the ACLU?

As far as the ACLU doing a alot of good, the are times when that is true. But they seem to get caught up on the idea that if 1 person in 5000 disagrees with something happening, then they should speak up for them. They then decide that regardless of what the other 4999 believe, the 1 person has right to stop what the whole group does because they say so. Don't get me wrong, they do some good. But more often then not, they get carried away. They go too far on issues making alot of people suffer. And have to change course on what they want to do to please a small group of peoples rights. Does a small group of people have more rights than the larger group, I think not. We all have equal rights although the ACLU tends to think they can and should control this. |

I appreciate it, Robert, but the problem is they don't have to knock on your door under those provisions. Call me paranoid.
Eric, the post that started the thread appears to be against the questionairre's/screening test's questions of being a member of or supporting the ACLU. While I am not a member or a supporter there are a couple of cases where I'd rather they DID say something and I am merely articulating those cases, since I didn't see any specific instances to suppport the original argument.
I personally think they are a drain on the court systems and denier of rights to the majority. I just wanted to show another side of the coin citing an instance or two of when, on the rare occasion, they've actually done something good. But, for the sake of argument, to say they do something good or bad without citing facts, is nothing more than rhetorical speaking. I was merely using the ACLU's opposition of the USA PATRIOT Act as an example of something good they stand for. |

cfuller, forgive me, but I'm a little lost on where you're going with the Patriot Act reference in light of the ACLU restriction. Can you sum up your point in reference to the intent of the thread topic? |
